About the Tour:
Morning Session
The journey commences in the Algarve’s inland, focusing on the hills around Monchique. Despite the prevalence of Eucalyptus, pockets of Cork Oaks remain, serving as habitats for various birds. The tour includes a visit to Foia, the highest point at 902 meters, offering potential sightings of Black Redstart, Blue Rock Thrush, and Rock Bunting.
Scrub Areas
These regions are habitats for the Whitethroat, Sardinian, Dartford, and Melodious Warblers.
Lower Elevation Area
This part of the tour is characterized by more trees and opportunities to see Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Short-toed Treecreeper, and Jay. Birds of prey like Kestrel, Buzzard, and occasionally Sparrowhawk, Short-toed, or Bonelli’s Eagle are also spotted.
Midday Break
The lunch break at Caldas de Monchique, a serene spa village, is under the shade of large trees, with the sounds of water and birds like Nuthatch, Great and Blue Tit, and Grey Wagtails.
Afternoon Session
A relaxing walk around the village, increasing chances to spot Firecrest, Nightingale, Blackcap, and Robin.
